February 2, 2011
Welcome to IEEE Region 2!
IEEE Region 2 has a proud heritage and serves over 32,000 members in Delaware, Ohio, Pennsylvania, northern Virginia, southern New Jersey, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.
This year I have three goals that I would like the Region 2 Leadership to focus on:
- The first is membership engagement, recruitment, and retention. Our chapters and sections are vital to engaging our members and communities. Providing members with meaningful experiences and activities is key to maintaining the vitality of our chapters and sections. Furthermore, IEEE MGA (Membership and Geographic Activities) is launching an important effort to revitalize Regions 1-6 in the United States. How we support and meet this challenge will be a focus of our Region 2 meetings.
- Second, I would like us continue to develop our volunteer leaders, particularly through training at our Region 2 meeting, the IEEE-USA meeting , and the 2011 Sections Congress .
- Third, I would like to improve our Region 2 awards program. Currently, Region 2 lags the other IEEE regions worldwide in the implementation of a formal awards program. I have asked our new Awards Chair, Anna Romaniuk, to benchmark other region awards programs and develop ideas for us to discuss at our Region 2 meeting.
I look forward to working with our membership and our volunteer leadership to make 2011 a great year for IEEE and its membership. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions.
Ralph Ford
Region 2 Director, 2011-12
